ECU game wrap: 33 yards rushing by the Hokies low-lighted….

(ECU Box Score)

…an under-achieving day all around. ECU out-gained us on the ground by… a 4.3 to 1 ratio. SG was serviceable, and per nearly always, settled down to complete short pass after short pass in the final thirty minutes of play. Though our Hokies did win, 17-7, a quick closer look shows a disturbing trend with a rugged trip to LSU up next on deck.

An illustration of the futility of our Line-of-Scrimmage play can be found in the Tackles For Loss count. ECU had 4 Sacks, we had none, ECU had 10 TFL, we had 2. In fact we only had one runner rush for positive yardage on the day! That is a major major problem folks. So is the amount of punishment B.Ore absorbed today. B.Ore got his clock-cleaned twice, and took contact on over 20 plays. It would have been wonderful if he only had 10-15 touches to conserve himself for LSU, but no such luck today folks.

On the good side, Hall, X, & B.Flowers had all-conference quality defensive games, and I did not see a whole lot of trash-talking from our stop-unit today. Props to them and Bud for hitting the mute-button for a change. On offense, Wheeler had a break-out kind of day, Harp and Morg were solid as well. Shuman looked like an up-grade at Center, and the rest of the Oline was the rest of the Oline. The Hokie special-teams were solid, or maybe even better than expected for game number one. But still…lot’s of work to do before we go to Baton Rouge folks. b-st.

PROPs to Hokie Lane! (winner of The Official Prediction Thread week #1, closest to the cup, and it was the longest closest to the cup ever!
