Emotional Hokies set to make lame Pirates walk the plank???

Our Hokies have incurred two major injuries for the season already (E.Lewis, E.Wang), about a baker’s dozen of hamstring tweaks, a couple of ankles, a drained knee, and the assorted bumps and bruises. But ECU has had…..

at least it’s fair share of knocks, and then some. But I’ve kept track, so here is the August long sick-call for the team from Greenville N.C.

  • Qb, Rob Kass-“Ale” (starter), suspended for D.U.I.
  • Left-G, Doug Polochak, (3rd team), shoulder, will play
  • DE, Marcus Hands, (starter), concussion symptoms, should play
  • DE Scotty Robinson, (2nd team), knee, limited action (0-20 plays)
  • DE, Craig Harper, (3rd team), knee, questionable
  • DE, Willie Smith, (3rd team), knee, will play
  • DT, Khalif Mitchell, (starter), knee, limited action (0-20 plays)
  • DT, James Graham, (non-traveling squad), knee, (would not play anyways)
  • DLine (utility), Nweike Osemene, (back-up), back, could be out for the year
  • MLB, Orlando Farrow, (2nd team), leg, will play
  • LB, Steve Spence, (back-up true freshman), may red-shirt
  • LB, Delvin Mack, (back-up), personal, left the team
  • Weakside LB, Nick Johnson, (2nd team), shoulder, will play
  • Strongside LB, Quentin Cotton Jr., (starter), shoulder, will play
  • DB, Herman Best, (2nd or 3rd teamer), ankle,
  • SS, Jerek Hewett, (2nd team), concussion, will play

Do you see a trend there? (hint: antonym for Offense)

Robinson, Mitchell, Cotton, Johnson, and Hewett all sat out the final Pirate scrimmage. That’s not a good sign, but the ECU defene did rather well this summer, despite looking like one of Major Frank Burns few surviving patients. But with that many hurts, and very in particular with Robinson and Mitchell still dinged up, I have to expect the Pirate defense, which is at least Top-3 in Conference U.S.A., to wear down, then possibly out. b-st.
