Virginia Tech basketball preview Florida State

#43 R.P.I. Virginia Tech @ #13 R.P.I. Florida State:

Virginia Tech basketball remains road-tripping after getting basically poleaxed by Nc.State after finally cracking the Top-25 in an embarrassing, routing, of a total L on Wednesday night down in Raleigh (Nc.).fsu-logo

Things may not get much easier with the always defensively durable Florida State Seminoles on tap Saturday afternoon at 2pm in Atlantic Coast play. The 2016-2017 Seminoles are a shinny looking 14 up and a mere one down (14-1) on the year thus far. Having only been beaten by Temple by one shot (86-89) this season. And in case you had not heard, Florida State is towering; I mean big, bigger, biggest, making this emotional rebound game a mightily tall order for coach Buzz and orange and maroon company as this 615 mile roadie may seem larger than that.

Virginia Tech Florida State Acc Tournament preview

#69 R.P.I. Florida State @ #87 R.P.I. Virginia Tech:

Florida State is a pretty decent Atlantic Coast men’s hoops team.FSU hoops logo
Just ask their now officially fighting for post-season birthing overall tally of 19 up and 12 down.

Now ask their 10th best in the A.c.c. and negative intra-league mark of 9-10 how all that post-season slotting does or does not shake out.

As these ‘noles were picked middle of the pack or about 6th or so in the A.c.c. by most pre-season magazines.

Or in other words… 11th A.c.c. seeded Florida State can nil afford an L in this one. And perhaps the same can be said of higher, 7th A.c.c. seated beloved Virginia Tech.

As Florida State does a lotta things average to good, and these 2015-2016 hooping ‘noles do nothing poorly at all. As their lowest national ranking in the 32 men’s D-1 basketball metrics that I track is a mere 242nd best (in turnovers).

Still yet, for all of Florida State’s higher scoring play; and all their stellar rookie year backcourt talent(s); there is nothing seminal here that strikes me as being unbeatable, every bit as much as there is nothing that strikes me as a sure fire Hokie win. Though who will win?

Virginia Tech Florida State basketball preview:

#251 R.P.I. Virginia Tech @ #179 R.P.I. Florida State:

I find it worthy to mention, that Virginia Tech and Florida State are your 14th and 13th ranked Atlantic Coast men’s hoops teams –albeit separated by 71 spots in national terms overall.

Says a little something-something; don’t it?

As these are not exactly epic Atlantic Coast men’s hoops squads, at least not this particular season. However, there is a particular gap in play here.

Or at least so it would seem.

Because this is not one of the more dominate Seminole hoops teams under coach Hamilton. This one may ever so slightly actually be within …reach.

Virginia Tech @ Florida State basketball preview!

#228 R.P.I. Virginia Tech @ #39 R.P.I.

Florida State:

Florida State is 13 up and 8 down on the year; and yet a pretty dang nifty 7-2 at home in Tallahassee.  Virginia Tech is 1 for the year as the visitor and riding an o for 2014 L streak into tonight’s cross-Divisional Atlantic Coast match-up.

Although Florida State has dropped 4 of their last 5 for a reason; as this is not quite your momm’a F.S.U. defensive juggernaut hoops club as well. Though make no mistake, it is pretty dang close, just a little smaller upfront and a bit beat-up all around.

Today’s word is middleocrity…

mid·dle-o-kry-ty  (mdl)

adj.

1. Equally distant from extremes or limits; central: the middle point on a line.

2. Being at neither one extreme nor the other; intermediate.

Golden Girls…

3. Of or towards the center as sporting competitors go, individual or team.

Yes, it’s true; I’ve submitted one of my favorite bourboneese words for official recognition and or  possible publication to Merriam-Webster. (no word yet on that)

Though that is precisely what we have here folks, to very moderate looking basketball teams when you look across the entirety of the 345 team men’s D-1 basketball collegiate landscape on the whole. Not the worst two teams, and certainly not the best two teams either. Notice as well that only 4 games separate the bottom 6 teams in the A.c.c. (and that does include F.S.U. and Vah.Tech). As the Atlantic Coast is now a game of halves as opposed to haves and have nots. F.S.U. has been beaten 7 times since mid-January whereas Virginia Tech has dropped 9 in the same time-period. Even though I’d prolly have to favor the Noles in Tallahassee, this one is in Blacksburg and that means there is a chance. [Read more…]

#6 (20-10) Virginia Tech vs. #3 (21-9) Florida State A.C.C. tournament second round preview:

#64 R.P.I. Virginia Tech vs. #48 R.P.I. Florida State:

TV coverage: 9:45pm+, ESPN2 & on ESPN36o

Vegas Line: VT-2, O/U=129, $-Line: VT-123, F.S.U.+1o3

Now that’s what I humbly and most happily call a gratifying win in the opening round of play of the 2011 men’s A.C.C. basketball tournament down in Greensboro North Carolina.

Seth and company lifted themselves up off the o-2 80 minute underwhelming mat otherwise know as Boston College and @ Klempson to give us all something to watch when the Selection Sunday Show airs Sunday night at 6pm on C.B.S. VT is (now) right back where VT always seems to be this time of year – right on the Committee’s proverbial bubble after beating Georgia Tech good and hard by the tune of a 59-43 O&M victory on Thursday night to close the 2011 A.C.C. tournament’s opening-round of play. Not half bad for a team with one contributor suspended indefinitely, and a star Forward (Jeff Allen) lame and hobbling about after a bad ankle sprain last week.

Neither is 20 wins half bad when you consider the train-wreck of attrition that the 2010-2011 basketball campaign for Virginia Tech has been. Seth may have just carved another A.C.C. Coach of the Year notch in his O&M belt after that stinging good first round win vs. the Yellow-Jackets on Thursday night.

Beating Florida State however is another matter all together. Beating Florida State on a 21 hour turnaround is a tall order indeed; pun very much intended.

(EDITORS NOTE: this preview will be C&P updated as the day rolls along in an attempt to give you something to read; sooner rather than later) [Read more…]
