Virginia Tech North Carolina State basketball preview

# R.P.I. N.C. State @ # R.P.I. Virginia Tech:

10 up and 3 down and streaking North Carolina State comes a calling in the New River Valley for a Christmas Broke visit for this Saturday afternoon Atlantic Coast Conference matinee.

NC.State -at least to me- represents coach Buzz and Virginia Tech’s next applied sports psych hooping step.

i.e they are learning to or already have learnt how to win!

NC.State is streaking, having tallied 6 straight wins going back to basically November and 8 of their last 9 overall.

Virginia Tech on the other hand must overhaul this go gently into that bad wvu night mentality.

We are just plain ole used to L’ing. NC.State is not. And you have to figure that that figures in this one at some point in time.

Read on to figure out just how much…

NC.State Eye in the Sky and Tech Thoughts

Today’s word of the day is … gutty!

A Stately win indeed!

A Stately win indeed!

  1. Innermost emotional or visceral response: .
  2. guts The inner or essential parts:
  3. Slang Courage; fortitude:
  4. (still) Head Football Coach Frank Beamer, and the changes he made before Nc.State!

This aging (then) 2 up and 3 down wounded animal turned out to be a dangerous one indeed. Just ask da Wolfpack if you don’t believe me.

As Frank’s bite turned out to be worse than his bark, and this as so many were calling for “next” even right up until kickoff over on the pay side of

Friday night coach Beamer turned back the clock and won a vintage Beamer era football game in classical O&M Style.

One might dare say Frank won it the  Smith Barney or “old-fashioned way…
…he earned it.”

  2. A pressing necessity.
  3. what I’ve not truly seen outta this O&M team since “the” Oh.State game.
  4. Friday night at 8pm???

I don’t know?

Ask me at about a quarter till 12.

Virginia Tech NC State basketball preview

#220 R.P.I. Virginia Tech @ #47 R.P.I. NC.State:

15 up and 11 down North Carolina State is up next and this is a road date in the always foreboding visiting climate of Atlantic Coast Conference play.

State is in 11th place in the A.c.c. itself right now at a negative 6-7 overall or .461 in conference.State logo

Or in other words, State and any given Wolfpack post-season chances can ill afford a rather upsetting L to underdog Virgina Tech here.

That said, although I’m not dead sure that State is in fact a post-season hoops club, I’m not totally sure they are not; either. As this one was prolly somewhat within our grasp 2-3 weeks ago, as State was not beyond our depth at that point in time. However, the last two away O&M contests were not all that shiny, as Virginia Tech and debut year Buzz Williams appear to have hit a wall, of sorts.

Today’s word is: polemic

po·lem·ic  (p-lmk)

(french) n.

  1. A controversial argument, especially one refuting or attacking a specific opinion or doctrine.
  2. A person engaged in or inclined to controversy, argument, or refutation. adj. also po·lem·i·cal (–kl)  Of or relating to a controversy, argument, or refutation.
  3. What coach J’s and his boys clearly were not down at Wake.

    Dance pac…

Now for the kicker folks, State is ripe for the taking! This former pre-season #1 does in fact take games off. The early afternoon sleepy looking tourney start-time is favorable, the tempo (i.e. faster) match-up is favorable, and if you don’t believe any of that just ask the o2.16 Box Score. Which clearly states -that NC thereof- barely beat us –in overtime no less- by a mere two shots.

Our beloved Hokies do indeed have a shot to steal this one; if, and only IF, they wake (posthumous pun intended) the hell up and act like we care. Coach J’s has called this lack of effort out, Erick Green has called this lack of effort out, Ichabod Crane has called this Sleepy Hollow lack of effort out; and so am I. Enough already! Stop being such Real Husbands of Hollywood mitches, stop being catty and act like you’ve got some sense.

As sporting thespians we clearly are not; thanks to our margin of error; what with only 8 scholarship ballers and an assortment of walk-ons. Remember kids, “all the word’s a stage” and yet the only place winning comes before working is still the Dictionary. It’s time to get to work! [Read more…]

Flipped Out 1o1:

Buy or Sell: coach J’s and his 2012-2013 Virginia Tech men’s hoops team are done winning until November?

I am unable to speak to the veracity or otherwise of that. At least not until we get to Wake –whom we have already beaten thus far this season. However I can speck to the veracity –or should I say vitality- of our remaining schedule. Right now we have 6 games left prior to hopefully beatable Wake. 50% of those six games are vs. opponents ranked 3rd or higher in national terms. No, that’s not a typo folks, nor is the fact that the team we play next was only pre-season #1. Nor is the fact that one of the other teams (Clemson) has already beaten us by 7, nor is the fact that we never match-up very well with Florida State, even at home.

I am also sure that if you think things are suspect now … just ask fall of 2013 when the nation’s leading scorer (Erick Green) is no longer on campus. You concerned yet? You should be, because if we do not beat (or should I say upset) Wake at Wake to close the year, we could very well wind up as a 20 L team, as opposed to a 20 win one, which we were a mere two years ago under none other than one of ESPN’s best college basketball analysts; one Seth Greenberg.
