Tech Thoughts v.o1.13: Grimey to L.s.u.?

Should I stay or should I go?”
The Clash

This on the heels of numerous whispers, rumors and innuendos of our very own coach Grimey being courted by none other than big bad Les Miles and Louisiana State University (L.s.u.)

S.e. see???
S.e. see???

Well, this one’s pretty damn easy folks.
“Bottom line it for us b.street?”
Stop being a guy drowning in his own stream of conciseness.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm-k … check it:
VT                     $256,ooo.oo
L.s.u.                  $51o,ooo.oo
———————————-
= gonzo!

You do the maths!

VT Buds Lyte

Read left to right (source: USAToday) … that’s code for…

School name, conference, assistant name, base salary, other pay, base+other, and bonus max

Or in other words, LSU’s oLine coach (already) made more, that’s m, o, r, e folks, more than future O&M Hall of Famer Bud Foster makes in Blacksburg Va.

Or a minimum of 2o7.16% more than Gimey just made for a dumpster fire of a Three Mile(s) Island gone Love Canal offensive-line inherited multi-year clean-up job in Blacksburg.

With the potential to make just over 252% more at L.s.u. at a maximum!
Maybe more if Les Miles can dig a little deeper.

Again, as my late mum’s side use to say in England … you do the maths!

If L.s.u. offers coach Grimey basically a 2:1 raise, coach Grimey is ... ???

    1. I’ve heard reports that Grimey has already gone down there.
      (unconfirmed of course)

And Grimey does know the S.e.c. backyard.
So he would enjoy some localized recruiting Ins and Outs.
(and he might want a little get-back with Auburn as well)

      1. I’m not going to feel very positively about the Hokies offensive rebuilding if Grimes goes after year one.

        1. Oh yah!
          10-4.
          No doubt.

3rd set of TECHniques in 3 years (to re-lean) is bad.
          Very bad.

  1. Alston:

    He’s good with it.
And he sure is a very handsome (if not outright natural) fit at G.
Very athletic and gifted for such, to be so damn naturally strong.

      1. Eventually?
        Sure.

        Next year?
Prolly at least 50-50 he does.
As I’m not sure who can beat him out?
(that’s a better way to put it; kinda via default or no credit of his own)

    1. A mid-level exemption and 2 coach O’Cain’s to be named later.
      ; )

  2. I don’t know if Grimey will stay or go but there are other considerations beside money that may work in our favor. Coach is a big family man and having lived in South Louisiana for 11 years I can tell you that Blacksburg is a 1000 times better place to live and raise a family.

  3. Yea, but LSU’s OL coach was their OC as well during the 2011/12 seasons. So his salary was inflated during this time…similar to how BS is now making 300k for us. Grimes is making $281k from VT this season..not including a 50k retention bonus he would receive if he stayed thru January 2015 (so around 330k). LSU will not pay him as much as Stud was making, I bet they offer around 450k (He was making 400k at AU).

  4. B-St, your compensation lines above comparing Bud and the LSU guy is way out of whack because it does not show the $800K annuity Bud just got for staying (what was it?–4, or 5, years). I know you just copied and pasted from somewhere, and that guy didn’t know or whatever, but you shoulda, coulda caught that one baby.

Maybe I’m whistling past the graveyard, but I believe Grimes is invested at VT right now and will not leave. He is not a quitter, and I don’t think he wants drop the OL he is working on without finishing the job. He’s also stated he and his family love Blacksburg.
Finally, who in the world wants to work for Les Miles, he of putrid character?

My chips are the pot that says he stays.

    1. Actually Sir, we can not compare that; unless the other guy is getting that as well.

      I hope you are right.
However, if the Grimey=choice #1 for L.s.u. reports are valid, he’s gone.

And VT will be spinning their wheels with their 3rd set of oLine techniques in 3 years.
      And that is bad,
Not to mention 3 different sets of recruits for 3 different sets of schemes.

  5. Hope Stiney wouldn’t be the choice. Outside talent was needed for that coaching position, period. A Stiney shoe-in would stink of a JJ-type of “lemme walk down the wall” move rather than seeking out the MOST qualified candidate. Though it would be in line with the athletic department’s rather lazy hires (and failed retentions, see baseball) in recent memory.
