The ECU Eye in the Sky: many of you old-schoolers know what that means…

i.e. the all seeing and always impartial camera lens that validated or refuted any player explanation or excuse of what happened on a given play during a game. With the visual social science of film-study in-mind, here are a few things my point-guard eyes saw Saturday that the announcers and MB’s did not talk up…

  • 1st Quarter, 10:23 remaining: Morgan was the one with the personal-foul call, but in a rare defense of Morgan, scan the tape, his contact was clean in and of its self, but the Zebra called it an unsportsmanlike foul for a late hit. I saw and heard a clean hit inside of the echo of the whistle, you be the judge…
  • 1st Quarter 5:49 remaining: watch #83 Sam Wheeler on the side of the pile adjacent to the VT sideline. At full speed I though he landed a right hand to the body of an ECU player, but in slow-mo’ it may have been his hand coming off of a jersey, which might actually suggest a hold, you be the judge…
  • 1st Quarter 5:49 remaining: Richard Graham suffers a reverse pancake as he is folded up like an accordion right into the VT backfield. It was bad, if you you look one play up, look this one up.
  • 2nd Quarter 6:59 remaining: listen to ECU MLB Quentin Cotton yelling out, well, what Quentin Cotton yelled out. Part of it was “…I’m Quentin Cotton…” Yes, yes indeed you are.
  • 2nd Quarter 5:02 remaining: D.Brown stole his man, right on the edge of the Sean Glennon roll-out (put him right down on the ground) D.Brown is sneaky, and advantageous, I love that.
  • 3rd Quarter 13:36 remaining: B.Ore, among other things, delivered a nifty behind the back no-look pass to the sideline judge. Seth Greenberg, are you seeing this? Your backcourt is pretty thin with both Z and Gordo having left the building, and Munson’s transfer.
  • 3rd Quarter 12:28 remaining, hit of the game delivered by #1 (Leon Best) of ECU. Nuff typed.
  • 3rd Quarter 7:36 remaining: Sportsmanship, sports psychology, a dead-ball technical foul in hoops, or D) all of the above; as B.Flowers slaps-5 across the line of scrimmage with the guy he’s covering from ECU, right before the ball is snapped, you be the judge…
  • 4th Quarter 10:15 remaining:#99, Carlton Powell steals his guy right in front of the pile that was right in front of Eddie Royal’s punt return.

That’s it, if you taped the game you might wanna check out all these little things I saw that make a big difference in how you understand and therefore rate an individual player.

Happy Labor Day everyone! b-st.
