The Technotrioic hoops classic tips off, in a battle of the Techs.

But that was a helluva a gut-check win to have trailed for the majority of the game, and beat a Maryland team that many thought was peaking, on the road in College Park Wednesday nite. So props to SG and crew for shaking themselves and coming correct in a tough road win. But now we catch a Gah.Tech team that is in serious stay at home post season danger if they do not close with a barrage of wins or win the ACC. So what should we expect in this one?

I was gonna pick us to win, mainly due to the short turnaround GT would have to play on, as they too (in addition to us) appeared to have some tired legs of late. But their Thursday nite date with france was canceled. So we will now likely catch GT at their up-tempo best. So lets look at some drones and some king bees to see what’s what……..

  • GT is a fine shooting team, 46th best in D-1 from the Floor.
  • GT gets a lotta thefts, 34th most in fact.
  • GT commits the 7th most Fouls in all of D-1, so we should get our share of 15` set-shots with a 10 second time limit.
  • GT is 303rd in points allowed, not quite a defensive juggernaut.
  • GT has a couple of frontcourt back-ups out for the year.

In fact, GT is no better than in the bottom 64% of any team defensive category when taken as an index. To be fair; some of that is a function of an up-tempo offensive oriented attack, but

some of that is a signature of a poor defensive team in the first place. But that’s not the only

defensive team on the fritz of late in this one, as our Hokies defensive FG% allowed has worsened by 5% from both the floor and from downtown in our last 5 games.

I’ve missed us by 1, UNC by 1, Miami by 2, nailed us right between the eyes for State, called the french OT, called the le` sweep, and missed us by 3 in doing such. So I’m rounding into post-season form. I like us in this one, but not by much, as the formerly high scoring Yellow Jackets have lost a bit of their offensive sting of late, only able to to press for the high 60’s in points in their last three games. But I sense an offensive break-out for GT. This one is gonna be offensive, and it’s gonna be close. Virginia Tech 76 Georgia Tech 73 b’street
