60 minutes remain in Frank’s Hall of Fame career!

That’s about what the Golden Hurricanes be folks.

They are fun to watch.

They are made for TV.

Bristol Suits everywhere will rejoice as Tulsa scores a lot and liberally gives up pretty much the same.

Boxing Day 2015 (A.K.A. the 26th of December), at 5:45pm, 2 teams with a combined 12 up and 12 down record will mix it up in Frank Beamer’s final football game …ever!

Talk about coming Independence Bowl full circle, as Shreveport La. is where it all began vs. Indiana, way way back when!

You excited yet?

Tulsa Team stats covers

Tulsa yo-yo’ed all year long, with multiple win and L streaks alike.

Tulsa schedTulsa faced 3 ranked teams and was never within any better than 14 points in those three games. Although Tulsa has not scored less than 40 points in a game since the middle of October; either. So let us hope this highly flying pass happy Golden Hurricane offense rusts up a bit during this post Final Exams downtime.

  • 35 career Qb Dane Evans can wing the ball round the field (3,958 passing) and he never met an open football player that he did not like, would would not throw to.
  • Tulsa has a pretty solid 1-2 Humes Imoh esque punch at Tb with Langer being the 6’2” 220 pack-mule and Brewer being more of the scat-back. Both guys with just over 700 rushing.
  • Garrett has Pro size and prolly does have Pro game at 6’4” and 221 lbs. of now healthy Wideout. 88 grabs for 1,451 receiving to boot.
  • And beyond that Tulsa is a pretty inviting defensive team to play; as I’d cover the Golden Hurricanes defense if they had any; which they don’t.

R.A.T.T. ... playing 6-6 Tulsa in the Independence Bowl is ... what?

fem’ Golden Hurricanes!

I see a lotta carping and pissing and moaning over on TSL right now about playing little ole dinky Tulsa in the Independence Bowl. Me?

Why be upset? When we may have had to backdoor a bowl at a undeserving or fugly looking 5-7 and possibly finished a belly up 5-8!

And this way Coach-Fu inherits 4 extra weeks of football practice and one extra full fledged game of self-scouting to work with. Whereas Frank gets a bowl game vs. a bowl team that he could possibly beat. That does not suck.

It could be worse folks.
MUCH.

Just ask home for the Holidays uva.

    1. Sorry..not buying this….that we should be happy to be slighted by acc…bowden last game @ 6-6 was gator..i would take that nepotism for VT as well

      1. I too would have preferred the Belk or Charlotte drive myself.
That’s very S.W.Va. doable. Same day if need be.

Though this team was not far removed from 5-7; or less.
And 3 years on the brink…

        -old Sailor’s adage-

That really does hearken to mind here.
        (at least for me)

  1. went to first Indy bowl when Beamer had program beginning its climb to national notoriety…… numerous charter flights about 5000 ??? excited Hokies… my flight -down & back same day…..was a long day……was an exciting game for Hokies with some big offensive play highlights. There is a military base nearby from what I remember…. and tons of cattle yards.. only down side was played early evening …by the time we got back to Shreveport Airport……the Airport had closed & locked their gates. Our charter plane (s) were sitting on runway……after about a 45 min-1 hr wait…..officials showed up to let us board the plane(s)…….. I believe we got back into Roanoke at about 2:45 am…… has been a long time……. and it is somewhat fitting that Beamers (& hokies) journey will have come full circle. —–just hope those making the trip will have similar game score results but a much shorter travel itinerary.
I am retired & will watch this game on the couch. Hokies will likely be heavy favorite but must avoid taking any team too lightly….. time & time again……. “”this is a cake walk” mindsets is a potential recipe for disaster.

    1. Neat share there Ron. (thank you)
      Long day indeed.
      Dang.

      We spent 2 nites.

I do recall talking to Marcus McLung at Bowl Practice and just how hard Beamer had worked them to the bone. They were shot. Worn out. And then that blocked kicked right before the half ignited them. And off then went!

I do find this return a bit fitting as well.
      Full circle indeed.
