Today’s word of the day is… tarnation!

tar·na·tion
/tärˈnāSHən/

noun · exclamation,

Origin: late 18th century: alteration.
NORTH AMERICAN

  1. used as a euphemism for “damnation.”
  2. pretty much what one of these two fan-bases is gonna be haterade guzzling 4 PM Saturday!
  3. Though which fan-base will that one, be?
  4. Read on to find… out!

North Carolina Head Coach: William Mack Brown: age=69, (78–52–1 at U.n.c.; 253–128–1 overall); has a rep’ for stellar (pun intended) recruiting, FLIPPING-recruits, offense, Wr’s and Pitch-n-Catch development in particular.
$3,500,000.oo

Baller Brown was a three-sport star at Putnam County High School, playing football, basketball, and baseball. After his senior season, he won All-State as well as Prep All-America honors and was selected one of the nation’s top running backs by Scholastic Magazine his senior year. The Tennessean selected him as the state player of the year.

Baller Brown accepted a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University., where his brother Watson Brown was the starting quarterback. In his time playing for the Vanderbilt Commodores, he played for Bill Pace and rushed 82 times for 364 yards and three touchdowns, as well as catching seven passes for 50 yards and a touchdown during the 1970 season.

Brown then transferred to Florida State University. Brown played for Florida State under head coach Larry Jones. At Florida State, he had 31 rushing attempts for 98 yards and 10 catches for 76 yards in the 1972 season. Lettering twice as a running back for the Seminoles, he started his coaching career as a student coach after five knee surgeries ended his career prematurely (may St.Nikon penta-bless).

Brown.edu graduated F.s.u. in 1974. He later received a graduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1976. PROPs on this!

Coach Mack broke into the clipboard for hire ranks at So.Miss and has made a buncha big-name tour stops along the way. Among them would be: Florida State, L.s.u., Oklahoma, of course, Texas, and a previous stint at U.n.c. (1988-97). Coach Brown started out with three negative seasons in his first six campaigns. Then he began a much more positive ascent upwards through the more rarefied coaching ranks. As he got things rolling at Chapel Hill in 1990 and has suffered only one L’ing season ever since. (although he had been retired/outta coaching since 2013). Since returning to Chapel Hill, Brown has started a tradition of lighting the Bell Tower blue after every home win.

Extremely dang good on a career-stage basis!

Coach Mack has picked up a few trinkets along the way. Among them would be: the B.c.s. or D-1 National Championship (2005), 2 Big 12 crowns (2005, 2009), and six Big 12 South Division titles (1999, 2001–2002, 2005, 2008–2009). Accordingly, he has been awarded a few things along the way as well. Among them would be: the A.c.c. Coach of the Year (1996), the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award (2005), the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award (2008) and he is a 2× Big 12 Coach of the Year (2005, 2009). Coach Mack also sports a winning post-season mark at 13-8 when bowling. And thespian Brown made several T.V. Friday Night Lights appearances/cameos.

Additionally, Coach Brown has authored an 18-year bowl-streak, with 20 straight winning seasons. This with a mere 192 consecutive weeks ranked in the Coach’s Poll to boot. Coach Brown is one of only three head coaches in D-1 history to coach players who recorded a 2,000-yard rushing season, a 1,000-yard receiving season and a 3,000-yard passing season in the very same year (Tx, per V.Young). When combined with his brother (Watson Brown), they compose the pair of brothers with the most combined wins in college football history. And he is already enshrined in the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. And he and his family have done more than a lot of community/charity work… in particular in regard to abused children. (God Bless!)

Mack-daddy’s wife is named Sally. They have four children:
Matt Jessee, Katherine Ryan, Barbara Wilson, and Chris Jessee.

North Carolina 2019 record: 7 up 6 down and .5oo in the A.c.c.

 U.n.cDefense: (starters back=7)

  • 9th in Total D!!
  • #1, 1st best, vs. the run!!!
  • 23rd vs. the throw.
  • 7th passing efficiency D!!
  • 45th in zone D!
  • 9 outta 10 in dLine Havoc. ‘Heel starting dLine is only 50% back… so this much production may or may not have been forecast if we can tap a scopolamine I.V. into the arm of most forecasters everywhere. Sr.Tomon Fox (6.5 sacks last season) provides experience in his role as an edge De rusher with some hybrid Lb responsibilities. Tomari Fox (‘aye’ these bros are related) and Jahlil Taylor are promising young returners as down linemen, with Tomari out-foxing the rest of the ‘Heel Dt’s to date. Bludgeoning Ng, Ray-Ray Vohasek (dinged) will scratch a lotta offensive helmets in the middle. And U.n.c. welcomes a talented pass rusher in freshman Desmond Evans. Lotta versatility wars here too, as 3 of the ‘Heel front-3 can play 3 of the front-4, spots. Not a dull front-3 or front-5 when they go even… per a lotta 2-point stances and zone-blitzing works off of it. With delays and combos behind all of that from the 2nd-layer. (Lb, #44 is really quick on tape here). Dline is well sized. Not quite S.e.c. 3-4 tho’ only one brick shy of that load. Starters are rock solid, metamorphic in a word. 2’s are mo’ parts, gravel.
  • 8 outta 10 in Linebacking Havoc. Chazz Surratt Lb is a stud; everyone is back and the rest of the ‘backing second-layer is none too shabby here.  ex-Qb1 (no typo), Lb Chazz Surratt, and Lb (#44), Jeremiah Gemmel is legit all-star caliber threats. There is a drop off after the top-3 and frankly, it is a pretty steep one that wants for even serviceable depth at that. As Chazz and Jerry make plays and are the glue-guys who are holding the U.n.c. D together on film. Or rather they are your tasty Breyer’s vanilla bean sprinkles as this is a Walmart or mid-shelf defense sans these two Lb’s. Although third-year hybrid Tomon Fox is just a damn Sons of Anarchy 266 lb. pack-mule at the nominal Sam-Linebacking spot. This kid is nearly a De cheating back in a 2-point stance. A really disruptive kid who makes you wonder where he will 2021 be? And oh yes… Chazz, well he only jazzed it up for five that’s (5) rushing TD’s as a Fr. Qb2! As he’s great in the open field, he can move, and he thinks like a Qb which vaults him into the right position to make things happen. 75% seniors work here and they are on-size for work at that. Hence, they cover a lotta lateral (or recovery) groud really well.
  • 3 outta 10 in Secondary Havoc. Secondary plays the man more than the ball. The Tar Heels had big, big problems generating big plays in previous seasons – coming up with 15 picks from 2016 to 2018. Last year was better, tho’ not so much again this season. Not as Pick-pocket (to extend the Qb-metaphor) greedy here.  Myles Wolfolk who has a history of leg-injuries and Cb Trey Morrison and Kyler McMichael… combined, have zero picks and three passes defended between ’em. And recall this was a really beat-up ‘Heel defensive backfield for most of last season. Cb Storm Duck (dinged) has a double-entendre cool Modine name. U.n.c. has a lotta transfer talent here and they are prolly at least as deep as they are outright good for it. Maybe even deeper than they are good. As there are 6-different former starters at whatever level or team all returning here. And the best returning Cb (Patrice Rene) by way of Ottawa is still recovering from a bum-knee (may St.Nikon bless), “eh”. Everyone is about average on metrics sans Morrison who could grow-up a bit. (i.e. he’s a shortie). U.n.c. will man on edge with more pressing on the Will-side. They switch a lot off the LOS (line-of-scrimmage) too. With halves behind that and the intensity of their 1-3 guys in FREE-zone varies. They elevator or toggle this to try to get your eyes to mess wif’ yo’ head. (tho’ the F’n Eagles did surprise and crack the code on this for several sizey gainers as well).
  • D overall: 4o f the top-7 2019 tacklers are gone; however, there’s a whole lot of talent and young depth to be installed. As recruiting has been very healthy here for the sky-blue stop-crew.
  • ∑ (summary): returning D production=64% (63rd). Chazz is your conflict defender here. Film-study: D will blitz and give up wide-side flats and they will blitz from anywhere. Blackshear please report to and “flatten” out the dancefloor here. That or they dump the full 7 into coverage and trust their forward-4 upfield to push the pocket northwardly. And they ain’t bad at doing that either. Tackling is so-so. Not bad, not great; tho’ U.n.c. will over pursue things and needs some reps on ‘breaking-down’ and playing ‘under control’. This appears to worsen further off the LOS (line-0f-scrimmage) downfield. Literally, Eye saw U.n.c. defenders in a hurry, (mutually) crash a Wr post-catch and basically knock each other silly. (could be sum Y.A.C. (yards after contact) here).

Defensive letter-grade:

U.n.c. Offense: (returning starters=10)

  • 30th in Total O.
  • 32nd in ground O.
  • 28th in aerial O.
  • 25th in passing efficiency O.
  • 19th in completion percentage O.
  • 51st worst in INT’s thrown. (Sam’ is a little wide/wild at times)!
  • 27th in YPC. (yards per catch). U.n.c. was EPIC here last year too!
  • 21st fewest in fumbling.
  • 4th in zone O!!!

    Base O with X-Z-X, H-back, and split-Back.
  • O overall: Qb1: F.s.u. **** (4-star) last-minute flip, Sam Howell looks like quite the Qb, catch. Ditto his shinny 4:1 career passing ratio (TD’s:INT’s). (although only 1:1 on 2020 thus far). Tritto 65% great for 530 threw the airwaves. That’s not bad work from a sophomoric year voter if you can get it gents. His 6′2″, 225 lb. rookie-year measured 5.07 forty, however, is a bit 2020 pokey. As this kid is a thud-thrower who sometimes invents is very own mechanics as he goes along. As this is an early-career Nolan Ryan power-pitcher who has yet to develop the complimentary breaking-ball; much less an off-speed pitch. Still yet, make no misQ here, Sam the Man has arm-talent to spare. And that same driving high R.P.M. throw can get things done while off-balance that other Pivots get sat down for. As Sam was the #2 N.C. H.S. baller this time two years hence, he was the #3 Pocket Qb, and here is all he scholastically did… Sam finished his career by going for 13,415 passing yards and 145 throw-game TDs while rushing for 3,621 yards and 60 more scores!!! Sam set the North Carolina record for total yards with 17,036! Sam ranks second in state history in career passing yards and he was only named 2018 North Carolina Gatorade Player and USA Today N.C. Player of the Year following his senior year. The only real foible was his 59% high school accuracy that was not entirely parting the center of the horsehairs at your local dart-pub or the old Ton-80 Club downtown. That said, collegiate Sam is now up to a more polished 65%, and whatever flame-throwing problems that Sam does have are heater problems that basically ~75 other D-1 squads wish they had. As Mister Howell is gonna be professionally thirsty indeed. The only question is drinking from the Grey Cup or off of the Lombardi Trophy? p.s. Howell averages 10.3 yps (yards per sacked)! Tho’ he can wiggle… as some expect him to do this season. Finally, Howell is showing some serious gamer tendencies, what with 6% better final-30 minute passing and a whopping 15% betterment in the final stanza (4Q)! wowow! And the team’s next star quarterback is coming next year with Drake Maye already committed. Rb(s): Williams, Javonte, and Carter, Michael carry the mail here and they carry it better than Cliff Clavin ever did as a more than serviceable 1-2 Rb punch goes. They are good, solid Rb’s, tho’ more parts doubles and triples as hitters. With only one carry north of 20-yards between ’em so far. They do fumble a bit historically upon breaking tape. Second leading rusher 5′1o″, 22o lb. third-year year Javonte Williams has found a little more sinew since we saw him last. Even his face looks bigger/thicker for it. Javonte looks part Cardassian with what I’d estimate to be a least an 18″ inch neck in photog’ stills. Strong/strapping kid upstairs with just enough shiftiness to compliment his suplex approach. As Javonte can and will bust a tackle or three. Easily in the top quarter of the A.c.c. Rb talent matrix for it too. Maybe more? As these Top-2 U.n.c. Rb’s have arithmetically combined for 15.3 ypr, collectively! And least we forgets… m.Carter is third in America that’s (3rd) in big-play breakaway capability! Best to go’on and hogtie #8 and get him down in the dirt; A.S.A.P.! As the A.c.c. whispers say that m.Carter might just have the best field-vision of any Rb in the whole Atlantic Coast shebang. And lest we forget, these Top-2 Rb’s for U.n.c. only flirted with 2K rushing between ’em last time out. (plus, 1o2 career catches combined… if you need ’em). Wr'(s)/Te: After two games, eight, that’s (8) different guys average a first down per reception or better here! And three of those eight average ≥15 or mo’! Yikes! As that should remind you of someone last year… in that, that should remind you of U.n.c. last year. Because U.n.c. last year had some of the best ROI on short to barely midrange pass-points I’ve ever seen. These guys, make, post-catch; plays! Dyami Brown is prolly your apex Wr right now.  As this is a short to medium to moderate length throw-game via design— tho’ honestly it seems a smidgeon extended downfield this season to me. Per U.n.c.’s courting several VHT (very highly touted) 4-star guys that did next to 2019 nothing and yet look a bit more 2020 snappy here. There is experience in this catch-crops as seven players with at least 10 receptions in 2019 are back. And don’t forget the Rb(s) who have 12 receptions so far out of the backfield. The only caveat is… this is not exactly All-State or the good hands’ people who are ballin’ here. They have C+++ hands, not mo’ than B—. Now imagine the Howelling if they have a good hands, day? With Beau Corrales now showing Charlie Joiner possession-Wr type signs— and yet only one Te has a catch. U.n.c.’s receivers are equally dangerous, led by the twosome of Dazz Newsome and Dyami Brown. Meaning: you can not key just one-side alone. Both players posted at least 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches last season. Brown can do a lot for you and is a real stretcher here too… over 20 ypc career says so! oLine: Up front, U.n.c. has continuity in the group paving the way for its skilled stars. The team must replace Charlie Heck at left-Ot, tho’ the rest of the offensive line returns intact. The right side appears to be set with two veteran 330-pound juniors Jordan Tucker (dinged) at even-Ot and Marcus MeKethan at even-G. This from last year’s blockers who were 113th in the nation in sacks allowed, and it gave up over seven tackles for loss per game! oLine did have some trouble with bullying and power-moves upfront… Crawford would be most useful here. St.Nikon bless! (as U.n.c.’s run-fits >>> passing-cup). In particular as assignment-management goes.
  • ∑ (summary): returning O production=87% (9th most)! film study: lottsa movement lives here and not many waiting or stationary inhabit the same. U.n.c. does a lotta rubbin’ or pickin’ or whateverin’ underneath to chip space open. Then they will throw behind that at times on bendy angular routes. Lotta multis and combo’s work here personnel-grouping wise with breeding or hybrids galore. H-back/Te, Hb/Wing, Split-back or eleventeen-personnel, or 10+1 personnel. And they all have reads, moves, countermoves, and counters-to-counters. Like Kevin McHale and Hakeem Olajuwon had sex and U.n.c.’s mini-me Air Raid O dropped. All work and no play (does not) make Jack a dull boy (here). As it did not take long to take a ‘shine’ to this O wonce Eye saw it actually click at times vs. BeeCee upon breaking tape. There do however seem to be a few deeper/longer elements mixed in Will-side here. The U.n.c. O is basically (roster stocking wise) our O plus their +Rambo, +Haze, and +Grimey. They are fully stocked and very close too 2-deep in quality guys in skill-set terms. Clemson Lyte if you will. Or very mid to late 20th Century Oriental fighting, as they come at you in waves and “Charlie” fatigues you. When it fatigues you, it is tough to get a muzzle (or even a bow) on every single powder blue offender. Enjoyed the run-fits here too… U.n.c. pulls backside and collapses then folds downward play-side. Saw some pretty active oLinemen downfield; footwork is not wanting here. m.Carter is a problem… as he has that easy/effortless smooooth striding pure limber athlete stretchy freak look to him. He’s got a 5th maybe even a 6th gear if/when he ever bothers to wind it fully out and actually get to it that is. And he looks off-Ot really good behind 1st-school Jerry Kramer and Fuzzy Thurston (hint: s.Bowl Trophy is named after him) Era two pulling-G’s. The ‘Heels peal-n-seal really well here in addition to that. And much as I hate this… U.n.c. should get some points by 4 PM on Saturday. You may indeed: MY BOARD AND BOOK IT (alike)!!!
  • 45% run:pass 55% mix. either a back-up Rb or Wr is your secret sauce offender here.
This O likes to: “PICK” on week spots underneath!
  • Air Raid basics: Coach Mike Leach signature O that got tabbed by Sonny Dykles and Franklin along the way… tho’ still owes its roots to B.y.u. and Lav.Edwards/Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, and Ty Detmer; of all the things. Anywho… it is basically a spread system designed out of a shotgun formation with four wide receivers and one running back. The formations are a variation of the run and shoot offense with two outside receivers and two inside slot receivers. The offense also uses trips formations featuring three wide receivers on one side of the field and a lone single receiver on the other side.
  • Heavy pass stagger: 65-75% via design; and most “audibles” are away from Runs via the same.
  • Fast/up-tempo: shifty/movey pre-snap O that is post-snap designed to wear D’s and keep favorably matched {sic: up} defensive personnel ON the field.
  • Wider splits: to make you run the outside loop at your H.S. Track to get to the Qb. This affords in situ/altruistic (passing) Lines of Sight and the quick zippy short hits are designed to negate blitzing through the wider-splits themselves.
  • ⇐⇒ and ⇑ stretching O… loves Posting (routes) with 2 pickings or at least angular/crossing routes (show: above); and then slipping an Rb safety-valve outta backfield, late.
  • This is a SNEAKY O! Gotta mind the store here for 60-minutes. As an assignment slip is 🖖almost assuredly a 1st-down allowed. (maybe, mo’). This is also not as much of a talent-centric O as it is an O that schemes openings. (comeback routings, digs/curls). It is in a word… a: “telepathy” offense. A gridiron Disco-Spock.

Offensive letter-grade:

p.s. Eye said this O was a bit more vertical this year, this may not be measurement ‘rong; tho’ me(now)thinks it is “trusting” Howell a bit more this year than before— and that is what you are really seeing upon breaking-tape.

T.Heel Special Teams: (both return)

North Carolina is 53rd in Net Punting and so is P Ben Kiernan. Well, unless this is the world-famous C.n.n. type historian Ben Kiernan? Although I could not biographically speak to this— there is a resemblance; tho’ I tangent…

Second-year Ben Kiernan is a 6′-none (or 5′11″), 2o5 lb. Dublin Ireland imported punter. ‘Aye’, he was merely the 11th ranked P in America two years ago by 247Sports. This after winning the pretty prestigious: Sailer’s 2018 Vegas Punt Champion competition to boot. Ben kicked-off and only punted in H.S. i.e. not the typical meta-leg-game P, K, KO all-in-1 specialist. In college Ben’s punting average is about 3-4 yards off of his scholastic mean. Tho’ he is young, he was not ranked ≤33rd best in the nation, and starting out middleocore as a newbie leg-swing guy is not the worst thing I’ve ever special teams seen. Neither is starting out with an early career-long of 64-yards and no punts blocked in his Chapel career to date.

  • 14th in Punt Returns | 38th in KO returns.
  • U.n.c. in only 67th punt coverage! | and 1st all-time (so far) in suicide-squad. ALL touchbacks. With not 1″, allowed.
  • U.n.c. has blocked 0 kicks and allowed 0 kicks to be blocked.
  • U.n.c. has blocked 0 punts and allowed 0 punts to be blocked.

Noah Ruggles is a r-Jr. 6′2″, 185 lb. K from down the Sunshine State way (Steinbrenner H.S., yes it is named for you know who— may St.George bless).

Noah was flooded with more kicking offers than most modern-era specialists; this after he broke basically every single Tampa Bay area kicking record. Noah was not ranked south of 9th best coming outta High School. He was 1st-string AAAAAAAA (ocho-A) two seasons ago and leg talent is not wanting here. Nor is his so-called: “long-lever” look. Think: if Bernie Kosar’s sidearm throw went sidearm leg-load or waist tilt upon the loading moment on the left-leg plant. “long levers” also make miss-hits better, or so the modern kicking theory goes. Right now, in his initial starting K1 year, Noah is 8 of 12 or 66.7%. Basically, two outta three kinda deal for the moment… he has a long of 49-yards thus far. Although Ruggles is said to have a mid to high 50’s leg in the bag. Perfect this season on P.A.T.’s (15 for 15). That being said, Noah has only been hovering right at/around 50% since mid-September as his early Indian Summer hawt-start has dropped along with the early Autumn thermometer.

And, Noah has been flooded out… now kicking for U.n.c. would be Grayson Atkins. Gray’ however is not (so far) out-kicking the aforementioned K1, noah.Ruggles. So, you have to wonder if there is a K3 to turn to here in an FGA slumpy, pinch?

If not… Grayson is a 5′9″, 188 lb. mighty-mite little ball of Furman Paladin hate. And Mr. Atkins is also… a first-team AFCA F.C.S. Coaches’ All-American who also merited All-America honors from the Associated Press and STATS F.C.S.  A consensus first-team All-SoCon selection last season who is just not having a 2019 encore legwork performance 2020 effort; or at least not yet. Still yet, 86% for his last two FGK’ing seasons prior to U.n.c. prolly does say more than 50% at U.n.c. says; right? Grayson can Punt, as he only has an 81-collegiate career-long here, and when you marry that to his 55-yard college career-long FG-make, and one Furman game with three that’s (3) makes in one game ≥51-yards you’ve prolly got a pretty fair-to-middling FGK in terms of leg-talent on your hands here. Ditto being a grad’-transfer twice SoCon Academic Honor Roll member to boot. That does not suck… and neither did the South Carolina High School Sports Coverage Chandler Catanzaro’s Top Kicker in South Carolina Award or his raising $5,000 last year for pediatric cancer research. (may St.Nicholas of Myra, *the* Christmas St.Nick’ BTW: and Patron Saint of children, bless)! As history says that some Gray’s Anatomy ‘patience’ is a virtue here most likely indeed. (p.s. it did look like 1 FGA-miss had a strange (tiling) placement to it— as it easily had right at 55-yards on it; maybe closer to 60-yards deep, seriously!)

Special Teams letter-grade: U.n.c. is not testing as high as I expected… like a bored-student who not studying Study Hall. Hence, the lowest possible: B. (tho’ it feels like it should be, mo’)

Unit Rankings:

  1. U.n.c. O.
  2. VT O.
  3. U.n.c. D.
  4. VT D.

X-factor(s):

  • motive: this (or uva); might just decide the A.c.c. runner-up to Klempson. So, how much mo’ motive does either side, need?!? EGDE=PUSH.
  • weather: MIGHT be some wetness here… that favors the better rushing team and better oLine (and dLine) and at least part of that should favor the Hokies. EDGE=VT.
  • health/off-field: VT is worse… our count changed tho’ it was inflated off of last week earlier this week. (may report close to even per a few latent returns, however). At least the Staff is right at full strength. Still yet, EDGE=U.n.c. by at least 375-450% injury-report availability/health!
  • penalties: as laundry goes… big-Mack 69th, Fu’ 8th! You do the maths… EDGE=VT.
  • intangibles: 26th in TOP is VeeTee, 35th in TOP is U.n.c. (VT really needs to widen/max’ this out A.S.A.P.) 67th worst (1.5 tpg) in all-important Turnover Margin would be U.n.c. Tho’ get with this… the U.n.c. D is not generating any takeaways hardly at all. And the t.Heel O is really not awful at protecting the rock itself. Still yet, Fu’ and Co. are a much niftier +/- O.oo or even in Turnover Margin. Making this category pretty close to a: PUSH.
  • fatigue: VT has to travel, and U.n.c. has been off for a spell of late… not having had to ball-out less one game in the last 4-weeks. i.e. how can the ‘heels not have fresher-legs @home? EDGE=U.n.c.

the takeaway:

To Qb or not to Qb… that is the question.”
—Coach Billy Shakespeare

As in… which Qb1 gives you the best possible chance to win @U.n.c. on Saturday?

  • Run and speed max’ Bax?
  • A more blended make a pass at them HenBoss?
  • Or, if it gets soggy… how ’bout some high voltage shopping at QVT?

Neat problem to have, our having so much Pivotal talent and all… although is there a superior or alpha or evening winning Qb1 nod to be had pregame here?

(go’on, tell me all about it down below…)

xxx‘s & ooo‘s

formulae here favors… prolly does have to be U.n.c. Eye might even R.A.T.T. favor U.n.c. even vs. us under more normalized/vaccinated circumstances 202-miles so-by-so-east down on Chapel Hill.

In 2019, U.n.c. ran for over 200-yards five times last season and won all five games!

Or in other words… (debuting/retuning) j.Ham HAS to take at least one thing away here… and with such a depleted secondary he’s just got to stop the U.n.c. ground-assault or else.

(that or VeeTee has gotta go +2 or more in the turnover battle with at least one defensive or special-teams major (TD) in order to keep pace).

permutations:

  1. Δ1=30% Tough to the point of dishonest to say VeeTee should in win here; so Eye I won’t. U.n.c has multi-score winning offensive firepower if it ‘clicks’ on Saturday.
  2. Δ2=30% that VeeTee wins a close one; 1.5 plays or less.
  3. Δ3=30% that U.n.c. wins a close one; 1.5 plays or less.
  4. Δ4=5% that the initial leader leads for a while, looks okay enough, then everything pops dirty against their favor and they get blown the spark out!
  5. Δ5=5% that the initial leader leads for a while, looks okay enough, then everything pops clean in their favor and they blow the chasee spark out!

#ChallangeA.c.c.epted… there are 1,440 minutes in a day and weather.God prolly needs to win at least 50+ of ’em here for us.

That might be our best look… having to wipe beads of h20 from your O&M optics.

And go’on and lunchroom bully U.n.c. with the Vice Squad.
Stand the heels on their head and shake ’em for all they’s worth!

As there are a few coaching circle whispers of Carolina not loving contact, here.

the skinny

Will (unfortunately) made an unusually nitrogenitic savvy preview point… Howell rolling plays and forcing young guys who are 2’s or 3’s to make at least 2-3 choices per play out on the edge could be a bad omen indeed. U.n.c. does that and the pressure placed upon guys who should only be facing 2021-2022 pressure’ and not before; may just bubble their sporting psi (pounds/square inch) and depressurize their heads prematurely.

Lo.FM (Long-field Management©)

  1. U.n.c. is 9th in 1st down D allowed | whereas V.Tech is only 51st in 1st down O inflicted. V.Tech is a spartan 11th in 1st down D allowed | whereas U.n.c. is also only 51st on 1st down O inflicted.
  2. U.n.c. is 23rd in 3rd down D allowed | whereas V.Tech is only 51st in 3rd down O inflicted. V.Tech is a striking 14th in 3rd down D allowed | whereas U.n.c. is a decent 21st on 3rd down O survived.
  3. Accordingly, the Lo.FM will be W (or L) late in the down-n-distance sequence. The sequencing itself seems to favor U.n.c. and in no small amount. EDGE=U.n.c.

TTT (Time To Throw©)

  • The Vice-squad is a very moderate looking 31st in Sacks allowed | whereas U.n.c. is a downright spiteful 3rd most in opposing Qb’s-sacked!
  • U.n.c. is an even less-maintained 50th in Sacks allowed | whereas VT is merely #1 in opposing Qb’s-sacked in all the land!
  • U.n.c. is south of average 45th in TFL (tackles for a loss) allowed | whereas VT is a centrist 40th in TFL inflicted.
  • VT is a downright solid looking 19th best in fewest TFL allowed | whereas U.n.c. is an even superior 16th most in TFL inflicted.
  • Overall: … EGDE=this favors both Qb’s taking a beating… and that could actually favor Qb-depth (and VT) itself. With TFL nearly breaking even as well.

Performated TEXT

U.n.c. Projected S&P+: 18th.
U.n.c. Projected S&P wins: 8.9 W’s.

PLANDEMIC:

As winning here, with a nobody secondary on the road vs. a surefire 1st-rounder at Qb1 backed up by the #1 rush D in the land?

This would be like transforming the water of the unstable 2018 and 2019 passions into the wine of 2020 unity. Probably even beyond that… as you’d have to hope we get to re-up Fu’ if that is the case. Though there I go again putting the cart in front of the proverbial, horse.

Giddy up!

As this one kinda reminds of someone’s prediction of and relative to the 2005 @wvu road-date. Whereby that person said: that we had to knock (then) w.v.u. Qb1 Adam Bednarik outta the game in order to be sure to win.

Same diff’ here people, as someone needs to go on and ether Howell AND we must go 4-corners (see: the historic sporting, pun) and let the air outta the Fu’fensive ball— thereby shortening the game in order to be sure who gar-ron-damn-tees VicTory in this contest.

Do this and the good-guys win. Do this not and this one really could come down to… he who scores last laughs, last.

So, go'on and Brylcreem that cowlick looking Qb1 of U.n.c.; wire his mouf!

The Hokies are 7-1 @Chapel Hill since joining the A.c.c.

^that^ is nice… this is nicer, or at least more inviting to go’on and test… U.n.c. went 3–6 last season in games decided by seven points or less, dropping those six contests by a combined 26-points. A.b.c. U.n.c. (always be closing).

And if for whatever reason or reasons, U.n.c. lacks that when a cut opens you apply leather Jack the Ripper mentality?

Then it is up to us to turn their mental-screws in our favor in this one.

Do you have a daughter?
How old are you?

Ahhhhhh, Eye don’t know regarding having any daughter(s) and I’ve been (undeservedly) blessed to be alive in seven different decades thus far… that pay-side tangent aside…                                😎

oOo

Neverthemore, I do know that this was one of those rare about ~5% of the time previews where the finish just did wanna congeal. The yeast did not wanna rise on up. An unleavened ending that feels uneven on the kneading indeed.

And for the first time ever it was not because I could not find an anchoring or enticing OPT hook upon which to hang my OPT digits. That’s called Hokie-health here or the (St.Nikephoros bless) the viral lack thereof… duh; right?

It was rather that Eye found getting a literate read on U.n.c. to be, elusive. Like you had to go dig a set of spectacles outta your old-desk drawer and although old glasses are better than no glasses, they are at least two prescriptions behind on being a full spectacle.

***

As I’ma still left wondering out loud what U.n.c. really is? Because even with 3 ugly/wasteful turnovers and one missed FGA, they jumped out hard-n-fast and still basically whooped Syracuse good-n-hard. Then, they get canceled-out (Charlotte’s web); and then they have two more turnovers and missed another FGA in a game in which Boston College closed better than they did.

So, either they a really good football team that is due to finally start their apex ascent or they are merely a pretty good football team that may actually be about one year away from finally kicking sand in the rest of the Coastal’s face.

the call

  1. Unless we get rid of Sammy or make m.Carter “howl”?
  2. Or unless we get a lotta umbrella and Morton Salt yellow-raincoat (Δ)?

Oh, wait… did I mention the weather, yet? Well, and nevertheless, in lieu of that— the t.Heel Nation may just leave us wondering what in tarnation just happened? They are most offensively potent indeed. In particular, if/when they finally come clean on O.

Ergo, therefore to Whit: my only forecast is that it is gonna take a lotta points to put U.n.c. down here.

As this one will be a race to 25, maybe even to 35…

…first team there?

Wins!

Tho’ Eye did finally decide on this being the kinda game that gets Fu’ the ex-Qb1 competitor his

ownself…

…all the way…

  1. +8 for the good guys and you got it right. Excellent read & insights on steroids as clearly see your coal heritage as you dig, dig and then dig some more.

    Keys to game
Howell doesn’t like to be hit. Maul him!!!
Must successfully pass against the 8-9 man front
Can’t get into 3rd and long situation. Foolish play calling.

Looking forward to 1st game of the yr live and in colour.

    Let’s Go…Hokies!!!

    1. Holden Hall (MINE dept.) and Dr. Crittenden (as you know, Calc’) and Dr. Mann (stats),
      would be proud.

(agry, gotta knock Sammy off of his A-game)

      thanks!

  2. You and Will say Hokies win, Chris dissents. Looks like a 2 to 1 edge for the good guys!
