b’log v0.04: Thursday night viewing-guide, LSU will…

face a fairly improved Mississippi State Bulldog team, on the road in Starkville. This is a great opportunity to scout LSU for September the 8th. But what should you look for? Here are a few things to take some notes on…my spys are saying that…

  1. all-world LSU DT Glenn “Miller” Dorsey, #72, has an assortment of nagging leg injuries from this summer’s August camp, should be interesting see how he does at less than 100%, if he eats Mississippi State up while playing a little bit lame, look out
  2. LSU’s best Olineman (Will Arnold, right-G), has had 7 different football surgeries, and he is expected to see limited snaps tonight to help preserve him for our Hokies. He’s real good; but LSU’s OLine is not exactly Mariana’s Trench deep. So look for #73 and see how long he plays, and how he does
  3. I’m also very keen to get a look-see at #15 Qb Matt Flynn. He’s LSU’s version of Will Proctor of Clemson from 2006. Been around, taken a bunch of snaps, appeared in 38 games, and thrown a pass in 27 games. But has never held the starting reins as the anointed number-one Qb. To be a pocket Qb, Flynn has show some escapabitlity, averaging over 4.5 yards per carry while being sacked 9 times in his career. Also of note is the fact that Flynn has never logged a Qb rating below 138. This is well expressed in his extremely lofty 5:1 career passing ratio (TD’s to INT’s), and an average of 16 and change per completion. But Flynn is a very vanilla 54% career passer. So there is a whole lot of film-study to be done on Matt Flynn

LSU has won 14 of 15 from Mississippi State, make that 15 of 16 after tonight, as the Bayou-Bengals win by 20+. Rutgers will win, as will Louisville. Thank God college football is back, (complete TV schedule right here), but tonight does not look real competitive to me. b-st.
