Congrats on completing our first hooville sweep since the 1963-64 calender sports year.

But da Wolfpac is ready to take a bite outta us, and they have already bitten us 5 straight times. So even though beating france for the 3rd major revenue sports time this year is a hellUVA a thing, can we finally break thru vs. the NC.State Wolfpac? Because we really do need a Road win to close out the year, and that’s not likely to happen @ UNC.

There is a log jam within +/- 3 L’s of 6 ACC teams currently ranked 3rd thru 8th in the ACC. I doubt all 8 get their NC2A tourney tix punched, so this game is vital, but who will win this ACC basketball game b’street?

Well………….my knee jerk Rx is that we will be a bit down after the elation of sweeping france; and State is a very tough 9-2 at home. But this is not yesteryears State either, gone is the Wolfpac bane himself, one Mr. Astur. But is that enough to notch a Hokie road ACC win in a tough place to play? Lets look at a few State pros and cons to find out.

  • Our Hokies have a mild health advantage, as State has 2 back-ups out for the year.
  • The O&M crew has a edge on the boards, as we enjoy a +12 Rebounding Margin per game over our two teams respective last five games.
  • State has been on fire from downtown, draining 43% of their attempts from beyond 19`9“ in their last five games.
  • The Wolfpac plays pretty good defense, as they are 54th in FG% allowed, and 34th in Blocks for all of D-1 on the season.

So points will be hard to come by down in Raleigh Tuesday nite, and the Wolfpac FG% allowed defense improves by 3% at home. State also does a tremendous amount of damage on the Inside. As State has 4 very legit ACC big-bodies that combo for 45 points and 20 boards a nite. The baddest of the bunch is true freshman #1 J.J. Hickson turning back a shot on the right. The dorkiest of which is Benji McCualey above, who has been rejected at his Meatballs Spaz recast attempt, by a basketball no less.

The so-called Fourm-Guide does mildly favor us, and we do enjoy an extra day of rest compared to State. But still, State is as tough as they are at Home for a reason, and Coach Sid Lowe plays 9 different ballers 17 or more minutes. Our frontlines ability to stay out of foul trouble is paramount to our having a decent enough chance in this one, just as pushing the ball on opportunity breaks to make the Wolfpac bigs run up and down the court is a must. But sorry, I’m just not feeling this one. I sense a mild to medium let-down trap game here folks. NC.State 70 Virginia Tech 63. b’street
