The Thursday night viewing guide…and a few Tech Tidbits:

Tricia Hefler, the six Cylon herself is easy on the eyes. Kate Beckinsale is easy on the eyes. Erin Andrews? More of the same…easy on the eyes. Then there is Boise’s homefield, the now fabled Smurf-turf. Is that easy on the eyes? Only for the tone deaf, the color blind, or Papa Smurf and his illegitimate blue clan. But Boise is indeed tough to beat in the Spud State……

How tough you ask? How does a 41-1 record at home over seven years strike yah. But all is not well in the land of electric blue field-turf. All everything Rb Ian Johnson has been off this year, the new Boise Qb (Taylor Tharp) has a sub-par 1:1 passing ratio, and several starters have missed games for the azure Bronc’s (though they are all expected back tonight). While the Boise offense has yet to shift into it’s fifth gear and really wind things out, the Bronco defense is stampeding along at an improved 10th best stop-unit ranking in all of D-1. Very tough against the run, almost as tough against the pass, as the Bronc’s will shift into and out of 4 LB’s or 5 Secondary players as the game progresses, thereby confusing the other side.

So.Miss returns all-sophomore sensation Rb Damion Fletcher, who don’t forget sat out the Golden Eagles only “L” on the year up at Tennessee, and our game in Blacksburg last year. So.Miss also has what many consider to be the best stop-unit in all of Conference USA, and they clearly hold a noticeable ST’s edge over Boise State. But turnovers have been an even bigger bugbear for So.Miss than they have for BSU, and it remains unseen if So.Miss can win games by throwing the ball, as Boise looks to have a decent enough chance to slow Fletcher down a bit.

Boise has been held under 41 points at home exactly one time since October of early 2005. So.Miss does match up pretty well style wise for this one, not well enough to win mind yah; but well enough to maintain contact throughout on ESPN tonight. Boise 29 So.Miss 24

Tech tidbits: I’m picking up what I’ll call improving intensity vibes surrounding our football team as we approach the part of our 2007 regular season schedule know as our ACC docket, and if you like defense, our 1st Quarter vs. UNC should be the one for you. But the key here will be……can Branden Ore snap outta his Coleman Collins’esq funk?

Collins was a bit dinged up his last year, Ore is a bit dinged up now, that is no longer innuendo, that is legit. But so far, neither one has been able to throw the proverbial switch and light things up, for varying training-room and off-field reasons. I’m now in the league of thought that this VT football team wins as many games as B.Ore can carry it to. Kenny Lewis Jr. has improved, to his credit, but he’s not what I’d all an every-down Back. Branden Ore is an every down Back, or at least he was……the question is……will he be one again? b-st.
