VT opens it’s 2007-2008 confernce docket @ Wake…..

….and this is nobodies gimmie folks. Wake is a stellar 6-zip at Home already on the year. Though it can be said that the D.Dec’s lack a signature win, as they have beaten 5 patsies, and a down Iowa, against being 0-2 vs. the S.E.C. But who will win?

Wake is a very so-so offensive team, but a dang good stop-unit when it comes to denying opposing teams a chance to score. A few vitals will help illustrate how this game is likely to turn….

  • Wake is 49th in FG% Defense allowed at 39% on the year, but is an ever better 35% allowed at Home.
  • Wake’s illustrious defense is further demonstrated by being 46th in Blocks, and 16th in Steals. In other words, Wake simply disallows shots attempts on Defense. (which puts a premium on Offensive Rebounding when our Hokies do shoot)
  • Wake really only goes with a 7 man rotation (with 2 other guys logging spot minutes); so fatigue might be an issue.
  • This is our “get-away-game”, as our players will be hustling home to be with friends and family late Sunday nite or early Monday AM. Ditto the D.Dec’s, some of whom will likely depart right after the game ends.

The D.Dec’s are paced by true Freshman James Johnson (wearing Jordan’s number below), who is averaging about the lowest possible double-double know to mankind; but is only 1 of well, 1 player(s) in the ACC to chalk-up a double-double so far on the Season. On top of all of that, Wake is 20th in Offensive Boards, and 79th on the Defensive Glass. In other words, our odds on winning this one just ain’t all that high. But the score down in Bowman Grey country will not be real high either. As Wake is a suspect shooting team both from the Floor (277th best) and from Downtown (282nd). So points will be hard to come by for both teams, with both squads looking to get out of town as well, and of course, the entire Wake community is still dealing with the loss of one Skip Prosser, may he R.I.P.

Tough game, and frankly I’m not feeling this Hokie win. Though this one is prolly a race to 60 points, which might only be a code for a race to 55. First team there, wins. Virginia Tech 53 Wake 62.

Merry Christmas TSL.com!!! b’street : )
