Monmouth is one of those fun NC2A names that you always liked just a little be coming up on the radio or 3-4 channel TV as a kid in the 60’s or 70’s.

- Siena.
Didn’t have a clue in the whole Wide wide world of Sports where any of them were, you only knew that those were some interesting names when they read the scoreboard ticker out loud during the late 1960’s and 1970’s Virginia Tech radio broadcasts.
They were so cool in fact that you had a sneaking liking of each one, as each one rang a bell each and every week.
These Monmouth Hawks however is just not all that, making this preview mercifully short. VT will win this game and beat this Northeast Conference foe from West Long Branch New Jersey.
4,744 students, 3 or 4 of which are decent to fair when it comes to hoops. One of which is 6`7“ 215 lb. junior Marcus Ware, he of the
springtime blown A.C.L. Mr. Ware hopes to get back in December, although this is one tough break for a kid who had to have foot surgery after his freshman year. An even tougher break for rookie season head coach King Rice as his starting Point-Guard -and his one true Point-Guard- (Jordan Davis) is an academic casualty robbing Coach Rice of 100% of his starting back-court before the season even began.
Right now Coach Rice is left with a very mini-me version of a three-headed monster as offense goes. #20 Mike Myers Keitt a 6-7 180 lb. junior swing is on several all-conference Northeast second team pre-season lists. Keitt is a good shooter from range (37%) and from the line (85%) who lives outside and does not often head towards the hoop. He’ll give you 10 and 3-4 boards per night. Ed Waite is a physical 6`5“ 240 lb. small-forward who has found nearly 20 lbs. since we last saw him last year. That might be playing a touch heavy although Waite is not afraid to throw his body around either. 9 points and the team lead with just a hair south of six rebounds (5.9) says so. 5`9“ 170 lb. lead-Guard Will Campbell is a pure slasher with very limited range, though he will toy with 10 odd points worth of produtivity off the Hawks bench.
Monmouth does field a very legitimate 7 footer, in 7-1 275 lb. big-body one #51 r-junior year Phillip Wait. Wait is a VHT (very highly touted) Saint John’s transfer who has a soft touch on the inside, and is a shot-blocking rebounder. Wait is the one true match-up edge that St.John’s enjoys over Seth and company as we only court two guys within half a foot of Mr. Wait.
After that there’s just not much to see up in West Branch New Jersey. No snooki’s, no situations, and the 11th or 12th outta twelve predicted Northeast Conference hoops team.
