This team may very well win the 2009 MNC.

Everything is bigger in this state (more on that in a bit), and the once awesome size of Earl Campbell’s 34“ thighs would attest that that.

But how good is this team, and why does everyone else have them so low this year when they recruit so very well each and every year? This team is only a couple of years removed from it’s last national championship, it’s 4th MNC overall and fields no less than 16 total all-conference candidates for 2008.

6th, Texas (Big-12): Texas does only have 11 starters back from last year. Texas does have a tough Big-12 docket this year. Texas does, however, have the best set of frontlines in the Big-12, with 80% back on their OLine and 75% back on their Dline. I said in the lead-in that everything was bigger in Texas. This is very true, as the Longhorn defensive front-7 fields no one south of 230lbs and an OLine the tops 3-bills across the board. Texas does, additionally, have the q-back likely to be picked first as Qb’s go in the Spring of 2010. What Texas needs is a breakout Rb, and secondary and OLb help. Rb looks pretty solid, as TX recruits, well in the Friday Night Lights state of TX. No Rb in the TX three-deep was worse than 33rd out of high school. So one quality runner should emerge. The Longhorn hind-4 on defense is another matter, and Texas Tech may very well win for the first time since 2002. But should the Bevo secondary sharpen it’s horns ahead of schedule, TX could be a nifty medium MNC shot to take. Strengths=LOS dominance, balanced offense, recruiting. Needs to improve=Secondary play, Punt game.

Some shot at this team, as Turnovers have done that to TX before, but the Longhorns are the favorites.

Texas=27 VT=13.
