Too bad we can not play Bama now so our guys can each win a new car.

Is Virginia Tech a legit MNC contender?Frank can still get after it!

Is ‘Bama a legit MNC contender?

I posit that the correct answer is the same in each particular case at this point in time; albeit for different reasons. Not yet is the correct answer, but lets see what 2009-2010 brings before we get too far ahead of ourselves.

Frank may just be holding some slinky hottie on Dancing With the Stars long before Nick the quick does any better than 10 wins inside the brutal S.E.C.

Beating UGA and their nearly scary black jerseys is somewhat impressive. I’ll give ‘Bama that round 10-9. But note how UGA fumbles, bumbles and stumbles under the undisciplined tutelage of one Mark “I never met an upset I did not like” Richt. Don’t believe me? Just ask the wvu trophy-case how Richt can do more with less whenever he pleases.

But back to the matter at hand.

A Virginia Tech D-1 football national championship. Here’s what this is NOT about:Now lets see, who won this game?

  1. It’s not about dancing, Fancy-Gap slang, or anything else. Don’t be fooled by such either.
  2. The last time I check football was still a game. It’s not dragging your mom in for chemo’, it’s not dragging your husband, best friend or even yourself in for some life altering or life threatening event. I’ve done some of that, I’ve sat long, hard ass hours in those life and death medical hallways; (some of which were at UVA of all places). That makes me care less about who dances and who is full of some paranoid version of program-wide hubris that allegedly sets some bogus kinda national championship tone. “Just win baby.” As Al Davis once said. Cheerleaders like winners and they are not typically interested in how much you won by; though they do like guys who can actually cut a rug.

On the other hand here’s what this IS about:

  1. First and foremost it’s about talent. Talent is the first ingredient in any award winning recipe. Our/VT’s talent is a Chicago-Maroon rising Tide. I expect ‘Bama’s will be as well, as Nick is indeed a fine recruiter. Yah gotta give Saban that much.
  2. Second it’s also about coaching. I’ll tell you what Nick, when you deposit the highest D-1 coaching check of all, it will also soon be about managing and massaging expectations downBud can take any Baylor Bear. in Tuscaloosa; good luck on that. Departing Major Applewhite will hamstring any offense, and the new defensive guy was never very good at Baylor. So Frank has the edge here as Newsome continues to improve his OLine year by year; and oh by the way……..”this Bud’s for you!”
  3. Finally, once you do get close to a national championship, it’s all about the little things. Call them intangibles, call them idiosyncrasies, you can even describe any single one of them with the nebulous but always omnipresent concept of “luck“. That one I can not predict for you. But Nick will need some himself to collect his new Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Now wouldn’t it be nice, to see ‘Bama get over their out-of-tune Music City beat down and inkPlease sign to play us 'Bama! to play Frank first thing next year? Since their superior attitude will obviously make Frank and company want to fold what will be no less than a 2009 Chicago Maroon straight-flush. Maybe the involved parties can agree to some new stakes? How about a Harley for the Hokies and a Schwinn 10-speed and some Joe Namath pantyhose for the ‘Bama guy?

For whatever reason(s) ... who is your favorite departing senior baller?

I’m a Hokie, and while Sean may not be enamored with Frank’s winning lockeroom post-game moves,  I’m actually in tune with Frank dancing 9 more times this year.  Further, I want to see that Fancy Gap move after game number one next year and I sure hope Nick can tell me all about his glorious national championship attitude after VT opens 2009 at 1-0.

“.…..that’s what it’s all about!
